Trooper James L. McCann of Nesquehoning was credited with staring down a bank robber armed with a sawed-off shotgun in Schuylkill County after he took him into custody after a tense, danger-fraught confrontation.
McCann was a plainsclothesman in Pottsville for court proceedings when a Philadelphia man made an armed robbery at the New Philadelphia branch of the Union National Bank, Pottsville, when he and officers respond.
McCann tracked down the winded fugitive after a chase through the woods and after the man threatened to shoot him, the trooper convinced him to surrender, handcuffed him and marched him out of the woods.
