Store reopens

The Kunkletown Thrift Store, 16 Kunkletown Road, at the Eldred Community Center, will reopen today.

Grief Support

The Western Pocono Community Library, 131 Pilgrim Way, Brodheadsville, is hosting a bereavement support group, facilitated by St. Luke’s, Wednesdays from 1- 2:30 p.m. Current dates include Jan. 22.

PTO meeting

The Pleasant Valley Elementary School PTO is slated to meet at 4 p.m.

Auxiliary meeting

The American Legion Auxiliary, Post 927, is slated to meet tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Legion Post Home in Gilbert.

Missions dinner

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, will have its next West End Missions dinner at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Pantry open

Effort UMC’s food pantry is slated to be open from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday.

Board to meet

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will hold a board meeting/work session meetings at 7 p.m. Thursday in the district’s administrative building along Route 115 in Brodheadsville.

Ross museum open

The Ross Township Historical Society invites readers of the Times News to its museum on Saturday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. There is never a fee for admission and the entire family is welcome.

The museum is next to the township building at 258 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg.

Touring the museum and speaking to the volunteers offers an introduction to Ross Township of yesterday to newer residents, while making connections between yesterday and today with residents who have lived here for years.

The museum offers an educational experience for youths, and supervised children of all ages are welcome.

As always, the hosting group is accepting donations, both monetary and artifacts that are directly related to life as it was 60-plus years ago, and in keeping with the following areas: farm and family; agriculture; government; business and industry; faith; and education.

Fellowship breakfast

From 9:30-10:30 a.m. Sunday, Effort UMC will serve a fellowship breakfast, prepared and served by the church’s trustees.

It is a free will offering event, with all donations going to the Capital Improvement fund for the church.

Communion table

St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effort, will celebrate The Baptism of Our Lord at its 9:30 a.m. service. Holy Communion will be offered.

Grape juice and gluten-free wafers will be available.

The church’s Council will meet at 1 p.m. Monday.

Riders meeting

The American Legion Riders of Post 927 in Gilbert will meet at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Guests are welcome.

New membership

Effort UMC is holding a new membership class at 12:20 p.m. in the church library on Sunday for anyone interested in joining the church.

Also, happening Sunday is a Youth Group gathering from 12:30-2:30 p.m. in Wesley Hall.

The community Sunday Supper hosted by Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, is set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Effort UMC begins its Wesley Hall floor project. It continues on Wednesday.

PVAG’s G.R.A.C.E.

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church has begun a new program for children.

It was designed “with the intention to bridge the gap between Sunday Service and autism spectrum disorder to allow little ones to have fellowship with their peers while parents are in service time.

New membership

Effort UMC has announced it is holding a new membership class for folks interested in joining the church.

The class will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday in the church library. Those interested are asked to sign up on a specific sheet on the church’s Welcome Center.

Pantry requests

The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC is asking for canned vegetables.

The pantry will be open from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday.

Monday meeting

The Ladies Auxiliary of St. John’s Lutheran Church is slated to meet at noon on Monday. Attendees are asked to bring lunch.

Council meeting

St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ, Kunkletown, will hold its council meeting at 7 p.m. Monday.

PVI concert

The Pleasant Valley Intermediate School’s Fourth Grade Winter Chorus Concert will be presented at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

OTOH meeting

Operation: Touch of Home will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion Post Home in Gilbert.

Upcoming shoot

The Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club has announced its block shoot and meat raffle for Feb. 2, starting at 11 a.m. It will be held at 122 Gun Club Lane, Saylorsburg.

It is a 12-gauge shotgun only event to which the public is definitely welcome.

Donations reminder

The local Senior Center, gathering on from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Mondays and Fridays, at Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, will be happy to accept donations of new paper and plasticware. The center is open from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.

The Monroe County Weatherization Program is available for folks who live in a single residential home if one’s income limit is $30,120 (as of January 2024); for each additional household member, add $10,760.

The free government-funded weatherization services are available to both owner occupants and renters.
