Ukrainian Homestead hosts annual Christmas Bazaar
The Ukrainian Homestead in Lehighton hosted its annual Christmas Bazaar on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
The holiday gathering featured a selection of homemade Ukrainian treats, including potato and cheese pierogies, sausages, smoked meats, pork belly and holubki (stuffed cabbage rolls).
Patrons could also satisfy their sweet tooth with traditional baked goods like poppyseed, local honey and nut loaves.
The bazaar also showcased arts and crafts vendors, offering unique handmade items for holiday gifts.
Organized by Lesia Stecyna and Ulana Prociak for over 30 years, the Ukrainian Homestead Christmas Bazaar is a heartwarming celebration of Ukrainian culture and community spirit.
Attendees were welcomed with smiles into the vibrant Ukrainian community, with food and art that showcased the rich cultural heritage of Ukraine.
The event supports local merchants and continues to instill a sense of togetherness and deep cultural pride.
Maria Prociuk, owner and baker of Maria’s Lovely Pastries, has been a longtime crafter and vendor for the occasion, even participating in other events annually hosted at the homestead.
“It’s a big custom for my family to come to the Homestead every year, even the area.” Prociuk said. “This has been a part of my life since childhood. It’s a great way to honor our traditions.”
In a heartfelt ceremonial act, Stecyna explained an important tradition where, during this time of year, people “honor the memory of loved ones who have passed, setting a place for them at the table, believing they come down to be with us during this special time. It’s important to never forget them.”
Next month, the homestead will host a Christmas dinner on Sunday, Jan. 19.
The event will feature delicious food and the warm, welcoming spirit that makes the Ukrainian Homestead a special part of the community.
