Lighting up the night Nesquehoning holds inaugural holiday decorating contest

ith Christmas less than one week away, Nesquehoning celebrated the upcoming holiday with a Christmas light competition.

Five winners were announced during borough council’s meeting on Wednesday.

They included:

• Best Traditional: The Leslie family at 242 W. Columbus Ave.

• Most Sparkling: The Bonner family at 580 E. Catawissa St.

• Most Creative: The Caruso family at 109 W. Railroad St.

• Most Festive: Kim Laird and Rob Barowski at 90 Stock St.

• Best Overall: The Schwarz family at 405 E. Center St.

“They were all fabulous,” said Councilwoman Suzanne Smith. “Thank you everyone for participating and thank you for helping to light up our town.”

This was the second new Christmas event in Nesquehoning this year.

Earlier this month, the town welcomed Santa, as well as two live reindeer to the first Christmas on The Hill in New Columbus park.

A total of 29 Christmas trees were sponsored for the event, lighting up the park in a variety of Christmas themes.

If you missed the event, the trees will remain up, decorated and lit nightly until Orthodox Christmas on Jan. 7.
