The Pennsylvania State Police, Troop M, Bethlehem, has announced the official Christmas holiday enforcement period will begin at 12:01 a.m. Dec. 24 and conclude at 11:59 p.m. Dec. 26.
The Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement Education Program will target drivers who aggressively operate their motor vehicles in a manner which is dangerous to members of the public, including speeding, seat belt violations and child seat infractions.
In addition, Selective Traffic Enforcement Against Drunk Drivers and DRE (Drug Recognition Expert) troopers will specifically focus on apprehending motorists who operate their vehicles under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance.
During the Christmas enforcement period last year, police investigated 36 crashes, including one that was alcohol-related, which resulted in one person having been injured.
Last year, they made 19 DUI arrests, issued 35 speeding citations, two child passenger seat citations, one seat belt citation and issued 12 occupant protection warnings and 186 other citations.
