A Mahoning Township official has questioned the absence of proceeds generated from Mahoning Valley Speedway.
Supervisor Deb McGowan asked at Wednesday’s board of supervisors meeting if the township has received any income from the Speedway.
Township secretary Natalie Haggerty said there has been nothing received, and that the township has sent several letters.
McGowan bemoaned the fact that the township hasn’t seen an amusement tax from the Speedway.
She said the amusement tax goes toward the township’s police department to buy vehicles and maintain its vehicles.
“Without those funds, it’s going to be difficult,” McGowan said.
Last year, the township received $8,900 from the Speedway via the amusement tax; $10,600 in 2022; and $9,900 in 2021.
All manner and forms of entertainment, such as concerts, carnivals, circus and athletic contests are required to pay an amusement tax to the township.
