State police at Frackville - crashes
State police at the Frackville barracks reported the following crashes:
• Henry J. Wetmiller, 18, of Selinsgrove, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 1:47 p.m. Dec. 5 on Lakeside Avenue in Delano Township.
Police said he was driving a 2011 Mercedes-Benz south when it slid sideways on the partially snow-covered roadway. The vehicle traveled onto the shoulder of the road and struck a utility pole before continuing southeast and hitting a second pole.
It had disabling damage and had to be towed.
Police said Wetmiller was cited after the crash.
• One person was injured in a three-vehicle crash at 7:37 p.m. Dec. 10 on West Eater Street (Route 209) in Coaldale.
Police said Masata Keitz, 32, of Lansford, sustained suspected minor injuries and was transported by personnel from the Tamaqua Community Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale.
They said the crash occurred when a 17-year-old girl from Coaldale, driving a 2011 Ford Edge west on Water Street, entered the left lane of traffic to turn onto Fifth Street without proper clearance and struck a 2024 Kia Telluride driven by Keita. The Telluride then hit a 2004 Chrysler Sebring driven by Qumaine A. Weldon, 35, of Summit Hill, who was stopped at a stop sign on Fifth Street, police said.
The Edge and Telluride had to be towed.
The 17-year-old was cited for “vehicle turning left,” police said, while Keita was cited for “restraint systems” violations.
• A passenger in one of two vehicles involved in a crash at 3:20 p.m. Dec. 10 at the intersection of Water Street (Route 209) and Manila Grove Drive in Coaldale was injured.
Police said Lynn S. Mongi, 72, of Barnesville, sustained suspected minor injuries and was transported to the St. Luke’s Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale.
Police said she was a passenger in a 2016 Toyota RAV4 driven by John J. Mongi Jr., 73, also of Barnesville, that was northbound on Manila Grove Drive when it entered Route 209 without proper clearance and was struck by a 2007 Ford F250 driven by Joseph F. Mitzen, 59, of Lansford, who was westbound on Route 209 at the time.
The RAV4 had to be towed.
Police said John Mongi was cited after the crash.
• Police said a 2017 Chevrolet Sonic was damaged in a crash at 6:05 p.m. Dec. 10 on West Blaine Street in McAdoo.
They did not identify the driver, who was uninjured but said she was westbound and attempted to turn left onto South Manning Street when she became disoriented from the lights of an ambulance behind her, leaving the road and striking a utility pole.
The car was able to be driven from the scene.
• Police said a driver fled the scene of a two-vehicle crash at 9:10 p.m. Dec. 9 on Brockton Mountain Drive, Ryan Township.
The fleeing vehicle was southbound when it entered the northbound lane occupied by a 2017 Acura driven by Samantha C. Serrano, 21, of Reading, forcing her to swerve to avoid a collision. Police said the vehicle first hit the Acura, which then struck a ditch on the east side of the road. Serrano was uninjured.
The Acura had to be towed.
• Anthony A. Serpico, 29, of Plains, was uninjured when the vehicle he was driving struck a deer at 7:58 p.m. Dec. 1 on Interstate 81 in Delano Township.
Police said he was driving a 2015 Subaru Outback northbound when the deer entered the roadway from the left shoulder and was struck.
The vehicle had to be towed.
• A 16-year-old girl from Andreas was cited for “vehicle turning left” after a two-vehicle crash at 6:44 p.m. Dec. 7 at the intersection of Claremont Avenue (Route 309) and Fairview Street in Rush Township (Hometown).
Police said she was driving a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica northbound on Route 309 and was preparing to turn left onto Fairview Street when she entered the intersection without proper clearance and her vehicle was hit by a 2019 Subaru Forester operated by Veranda C. Brown, 24, of Tunkhannock, who was southbound.
Police said both vehicles had to be towed. Both drivers and a passenger in each vehicle escaped injuries.
