Carbon County sheriff recognizes Lansford officer

Carbon County Sheriff Daniel Zeigler recognized one of Lansford’s police officers for exemplary service in apprehending a fugitive in the borough last month.

Zeigler presented a citation to Sgt. Shawn Nunemacher during Wednesday’s borough council meeting for his assistance to the sheriff’s department. The sheriff also asked that a letter of recognition be placed in Nunemacher’s personnel file.

The sheriff’s department has been active with pursuing active warrants and apprehending fugitives in the past several years, Zeigler said.

“We can’t be successful doing that,” he said, “without our law enforcement partners.”

The Lansford Police Department, and specifically Nunemacher, has assisted the sheriff’s office on numerous occasions, and is being recognized for an apprehension on Nov. 23, the sheriff said.

Chief Deputy Mitch Kramer received credible intelligence that a fugitive wanted on parole warrants in the county was seen on Kline Alley in Lansford, Zeigler told council.

Nunemacher responded, identified the fugitive and after a brief foot pursuit took the person into custody without further incident.

“The Carbon County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Sgt. Nunemacher for his exemplary service and continued support,” Zeigler said. “We look forward to continuing to make our community safer through these joint efforts.”

Zeigler read the citation and presented it to Nunemacher.

Resident Rose Mary Cannon, who was the next person to speak during council’s public courtesy portion, said it was good to see the police department being recognized.

“It’s really nice to see them getting the credit that they actually do deserve,” she said.
