“My goal as an orthopedic surgeon is to make sure you understand what is happening with your body and then discuss evidence-based treatments to help you,” he said.
Services offered: Dr. Martinez specializes in orthopedic surgery including robotic-assisted knee replacement, shoulder replacement and fracture repair. He also offers arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, shoulder instability surgery, knee reconstruction surgery and meniscus surgery.
Conditions Treated: In addition to sports-related injuries, Dr. Martinez treats osteoarthritis, joint instability, along with tendon tears, sprains, muscle strains and fractures.
Why he entered medicine: Dr. Martinez decided to become a physician because he always had an interest in the sciences, the human body and helping others. As he grew as a physician, he found that educating his patients and acting as their advocate was worth the long journey of studying medicine.
About Dr. Martinez: Dr. Martinez was born in Puerto Rico and was raised in Florida. He moved to the U.S. mainland to pursue medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. During his orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Dr. Martinez served as an assistant physician to the Houston Texans, Houston Rockets, Houston Astros and Houston Dynamo professional teams. Dr. Martinez speaks fluent Spanish and has participated in medical mission journeys to places such as Puerto Rico for Hurricane Maria disaster relief. He will continue to seek opportunities to help where needed.
When he’s not practicing medicine, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. He enjoys traveling and is an avid golfer.
