Local Roundup: Results from Dec. 13

Northwestern and Northern Lehigh both picked up wins in both boys and girls basketball on Friday.

The Tigers teams defeated Catasauqua, while the Bulldog squads downed Pen Argyl.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Northwestern-Catasauqua

Gavin Nelson poured in 33 points to help Northwestern win its season opener with a 67-54 victory over Catasauqua in Colonial League action.

The Tigers, who led by 19 points at halftime, also received 10 from Eli Zimmerman.

Frankie Pujols had 19 points for the Rough Riders, who remained winless.

Northern Lehigh-Pen Argyl

Kellen Bauer recorded 22 points and Coy Daubert added 17 to lead Northern Lehigh to a 68-56 Colonial League victory over Pen Argyl.

The Bulldogs, who trailed by seven points after one quarter, outscored the Green Knights 34-21 in the second half to pick up their second consecutive win.

Cayden Vishnesky led Pen Argyl with 19 points.

Joseph Plessl scored 14 points and Sean McMenamy added 12 to help Southern Lehigh hold off Palmerton in double overtime, 51-45, in a Colonial League contest.

The Bombers, who used a 20-5 second quarter to gain a halftime advantage, received a game-high 20 points from Logan Anthony, while Corey Serfass contributed 11.

Zariel Gonzalez scored 17 points and Jahrel Vigo had 16 to lead Allentown Central Catholic to a 66-42 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Pleasant Valley.

The victory allowed the Vikings to remain undefeated.

The Bears, who led by three points at the half, received a team-high 12 points from Zach Prator.

Cara Thomas scored 14 of her team-high 20 points in the opening half to help Northwestern to its fifth straight win in a 55-48 victory over Catasauqua in Colonial League action.

The Tigers also received 11 points from Emma Freeman.

Hailey Jenkins tallied a game-high 33 points for Catasauqua, which stayed within striking distance throughout the game.

Hailey Barry scored a game-high 18 points and Mikayla Pengelly added 17 to keep Palmerton undefeated as they doubled-up Southern Lehigh, 61-30.

Barry tallied 13 of her points in the opening quarter as the Blue Bombers raced to a 25-1 start.

Eliana Marques finished with 13 points to lead Southern Lehigh.

Katelynn Barthold and Tegan Simms combined for 56 points in Northern Lehigh’s 68-36 Colonial League victory over Pen Argyl.

Barthold scored 29 points and Simms tallied 27 for the Bulldogs, who led by 11 after the first quarter.

The Green Knights received 27 points from Julia Vargo.

BOYS WRESTLING

PM Gauntlet Duals

Pleasant Valley won three of its five matches in the PM Gauntlet Duals at Blue Mountain High School.

The Bears defeated Valley View (46-27), Allen (58-17) and Sugar Valley Rural Charter (54-21), while they lost to Tri-Valley (35-34) and Blue Mountain (39-27).

Senior Andrew Mihalichko (285), junior Evan Gillespie (215) and sophomore Shawn Radcliffe (114) all were undefeated in the tournament with 5-0 records.

Gillespie had five falls, Radcliffe had four falls and a technical fall and Mihalichko had four falls and a forfeit.
