Carbon County Commissioners
The Carbon County commissioners acted on or discussed the following items during their weekly meeting last week.
• Approved a quote from Witmer Public Safety Group Inc. of Coatesville to purchase 15 Glock firearms and equipment for the adult probation office, plus training for a total cost of $10,544.19. This figure is contingent upon the trade-in of 15 handguns valued at $75 each and is funded through the Offender Supervision Fund.
• Approved a quote with Martins Electrical Service LLC of Tamaqua to replace two grinder pumps at the correctional facility. The total cost is $10,657.06.
• Approved a grant application submission for the 2024 Help America Vote Act grant through the Department of State in the amount of $3,000. The funds will be used to purchase an automatic envelope opener for the elections office to help increase efficiency for processing mail-in/absentee envelopes.
• Ratified a quote from Carpetkraft of Nesquehoning for carpet tiles and cove base in the Emergency Management Agency/Communications 911 building at a total cost of $15,000.
• Approved an agreement with Carbon Career and Technical Institute of Jim Thorpe to provide OSHA 10-hour construction training to contractors at a cost not to exceed $26,000. This utilizes funds from the COVID-19 ARPA Whole Home Repairs Program.
• Approved an agreement with Zelenkofske Axelrod LLC of Harrisburg for financial consulting services for 2025 for a fee not to exceed $99,750.
Opioid settlement funds
• Approved a proposal from Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau of Stroudsburg to assist in campaigns related to fentanyl awareness through video and digital ads, radio, newspaper and billboards at a cost of $284,826. This is through the opioid settlement funds.
• Approved Opioid Settlement grants for a professional presentation by speaker Chris Herren. Jim Thorpe, Palmerton, Panther Valley and Weatherly each received $10,000, while Lehighton received $19,500 because the school is also hosting an evening presentation for anyone to attend.
• Approved an agreement with Zelenkofske Axelrod LLC of Harrisburg for financial consulting services in relation to the Opioid Fund Settlement funds for 2025. The contract shall not exceed $17,100, which breaks down to $285 per hour, not to exceed 60 hours.

• Resignation: Justin E. Markell of Lehighton, 911 assistant manager/addressing coordinator, effective Dec. 22.
• Employment separations: Christopher M. Trotter of Lehighton, corrections officer, effective Nov. 20; and Raegan L. Nemeth of Palmerton, corrections officer, effective Dec. 4.
• Courts change of status: Tracey A. Sell of Jim Thorpe, from secretary I to secretary II, district court in Weatherly, effective Dec. 9.
