Lehighton continues to mull several proposed alterations to its snow emergency routes.
Borough council last week briefly discussed the possible changes to the routes.
Joe Flickinger, borough Emergency Management Coordinator, said he was “deeply concerned” with the elimination of the snow emergency route access by the hospital.
“Even though the facility no longer has an active emergency room, it still is utilized for inpatient care,” Flickinger said. “The facility is also attached to the nursing home, and in my opinion emergency access should be maintained to the hospital during inclement weather conditions for the safety of the patients, staff and nursing home residents.”
Borough Mayor Ryan Saunders said those suggestions were given to him by the borough’s emergency services departments.
Saunders added that he also spoke with borough fire Chief Pat Mriss and got his approval on the revised snow emergency route.
Council will likely look to adopt the revised snow emergency route at next month’s meeting.
