The Carbon Career & Technical Institute in Jim Thorpe conducted the following business at the November meeting of the Joint Operating Committee:
• Approved the following as substitutes: Rica Cook, teacher, instructional aide; Catherine Nalesnik, math tutor; Jennifer Peiffer, chaperone; Michele Troutman, teacher, instructional aide
• Approved John “Mark” Clayton, adult education tutor volunteer on an as-needed basis through November 2025.
• Approved the following homebound instructor on an as-needed basis, at the approved hourly rate: Larissa Genetti, science teacher; Diane Hyjurick, math teacher; Francine Kluck, adult education site supervisor; Maya Kowalcyk, English teacher; Donna McClain, health medical instructor; Jeremy Pease, drafting and design technology instructor; Michael Wildoner, English teacher
Education
• Approved attendance of 20 CCTI students at the DECA District Competition at Lehigh Carbon Community College, Dec. 16 in Schnecksville at a cost of approximately $1,035, to cover student and adviser/chaperone registration fees. Carly Rinda, DECA adviser, Scott Bartholomew, DECA assistant adviser, and Casey Hill, digital marketing instructional aide, will chaperone this event.
• Approved attendance of 62 CCTI students at SkillsUSA District Competitions. The competitions will be held on Dec. 10 at Johnson College, Scranton; Jan. 9, 2025, at Luzerne County Community College, Nanticoke; and on a third date and location as yet to be determined, for a total cost of approximately $1,980 to cover registration and materials for participants, and adviser registration. Competitions will be chaperoned by Kevin Kuehner, SkillsUSA adviser, Heather Cassidy and Kevin Sowa, SkillsUSA co-advisers, as well as Maya Kowalcyk, English teacher.
• Approved attendance of two CCTI students at the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Program at Millersville University, Millersville from June 5-8, 2025 at a cost not to exceed $570 for both students to defer the cost of registration, meals and lodging.
• Approved the Agreement of Affiliation between the Carbon Career & Technical Institute Medical and Health Assistant/Certified Nurse Aide Program be renewed/approved and executed for the 2024-25 fiscal year.
• Ratified the following motion to include the approval of expenditures: Donna McClain, health medical instructor, attend Penn State Outreach 33rd Annual Conference Strategies: Educational Excellence for Health Care Providers and Educators Nov. 13-15 at Wyndham Garden State College at a cost not to exceed $800.
• Approved the agreement between Carbon and the Carbon Career & Technical Institute for OSHA 10-hour construction.
• Approved hosting a Winter semiformal dance for CCTI students and their approved out of school guests in the cafeteria of the school from 5-8 p.m. on Jan. 31, 2025 (Snow date Feb. 7, 2025).
• Approved revisions to the 2024-25 school year substitute rates.
• Announced the CCTI reorganization and regularly scheduled meeting will be held Thursday, Dec. 19 at 6 p.m.
