Monroe County man charged with sexual assault of juvenile

A Blakeslee man has been charged with sexually assaulting a juvenile in Monroe County.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by trooper Ryan English of the Pennsylvania State Police — Lehighton barracks, in the case against Matthew Turko:

On Nov. 25, English was contacted by Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department Detective Erica Berk regarding an active investigation regarding a 12-year-old girl, who disclosed that she had been sexually assaulted by Turko, 34, numerous times from the age of 9 through 11.

The girl told the Children’s Advocacy Center of Monroe County that when she was about 9 years old, Turko started to do inappropriate things to her.

The victim recalled several incidents that occurred in Polk Township and Tunkannock Township.

At 1:30 p.m. Dec. 4, Berk and English conducted a consensually recorded interview with Turko at Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department.

Initially, Turko denied all allegations, but eventually made an admission of regret for his actions and stated that he was sorry for what he had done to the victim.

Turko faces charges on five counts each of rape of child, rape forcible compulsion, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, aggravated indecent assault without consent, unlawful contact with minor, corruption of minors, endangering welfare of children, indecent assault person less than 13 years of age, and indecent assault without consent of other.

Turko is currently incarcerated in the Monroe County Prison in lieu of $250,000 monetary bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Thursday before District Judge Jamie Levy of Marshall’s Creek.
