Papa Al’s worker awaiting liver transplant

A GoFundMe has been set up for an employee at a Palmerton business who is awaiting a liver transplant.

Ana Maldonado organized the GoFundMe on behalf of Miguel Hernandez, who works at Papa Al’s Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria.

Maldonado is Hernandez’s sister-in-law, and lives with Miguel’s younger brother in the Lehigh Valley.

As of Friday afternoon, $3,055 of the $10,000 goal had been raised.

Papa Al’s posted on its Facebook page Friday morning that they are “deeply saddened” to share that Hernandez is currently hospitalized at St. Luke’s Medical Center fighting for his life as he awaits a liver transplant.

“As our skilled pizza maker and a friendly face in our community, Miguel has touched the hearts of many,” the post states. “We are rallying around him during this challenging time and kindly request your support.

“Any donation would be greatly appreciated and would help us provide assistance to Miguel and his loves ones. Your generosity and kindness means the world to us.”

Hernandez has a 4-year-old daughter, and the fundraiser is geared to support Hernandez and his family.

Sam Alvarado, an employee at Papa Al’s, said any donations can be dropped off at the restaurant that will go toward the cause.

“We stand very united with Miguel and his family,” Alvarado said. “We’re praying for him.”
