The Panther Valley boys basketball team opened Schuylkill League play Thursday with a win over North Schuylkill.
The victory kept the Panthers undefeated.
Marian swept Mahaony Area in swimming action, while the Tamaqua girls also earned a win in the pool.

Panther Valley held host North Schuylkill to just eight first-half points and pulled away for a 46-27 victory in both team’s Schuylkill League opener.
Danny Wehr scored 11 of his 13 points in the opening half as undefeated PV led by 16 points at the break. Wehr also pulled down 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double.
Conner Penberth nearly added his own double-double, collecting 14 points and nine assists, while Logan Fisher chipped in with eight points.

After a close first half, Minersville pulled away in the second to gain a 62-28 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.
Shazier Bethea scored a game-high 20 points for the Miners, who used a 25-9 third quarter to extend a seven-point halftime lead.
The Blue Raiders received a team-high 12 points from Cooper Ansbach, while Noah Mateyak chipped in with 10.

Ella Wilson scored all 14 of her points in the third quarter to help Lake Lehman pull out a 54-48 victory over Marian.
The Fillies held a one-point halftime lead before Wilson and the Knights used a 24-13 third quarter to take control.
Kinley Purdy paced the winners with 15 points.
Deanna Pugh tallied a team-high 14 points for Marian, while Addy Fritz finished with 12 and Olivia Serfass added 11.

Zanaiya Days and Farrah Shaheen both scored 16 points to lead Pocono Mountain East to a 58-25 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over host Pleasant Valley.
Days tallied nine points in the first half as the Cardinals jumped out to a 28-11 lead.
The winners also received 11 points from Kallie Insigna, while the Bears were paced by Alexia Polazzo’s nine points.

Marian-Mahanoy Area
Marian gained a Schuylkill League sweep of Mahanoy Area.
The Colts posted a 54-15 victory, while the Fillies gained a 58-47 win.
Michael Strucko and Andrew Metters both won two individual races and swam legs on two first-place relay teams. Strucko took the 100 and 200 free events, while Metters captured the 50 free and 100 back.
Lydia Strucko and Zoe Katona each won two events in the girls meet and were part of a winning relay squad. Strucko touched first in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly, with Katona adding wins in the 200 free and 100 breast.

Savannah Wilson posted a pair of individual wins to help the Tamaqua girls gain a 103-64 Schuylkill League victory over Schuylkill Haven.
The boys meet ended in a 54-54 tie.
Jones took the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke, and also contributed to two relay wins. The Raider girls also received firsts from both Isabella Jones (500 free) and Audrey Nattress (100 back).
Tamaqua’s Vincenzo Valentine (diving, 100 breast) registered a pair of wins, while Thomas Graham (50 free), Ben Hunsicker (100 free) and Logan Morgans (500 free) all added firsts in the boys meet.
