State police at Belfast - crashes
State police at the Belfast barracks reported the following crashes:
• No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 7:48 a.m. Nov. 22 on Route 33 in Palmer Township.
Police said the crash occurred when the driver of a 2023 Ford F-150, Edward Avosso Jr., 39, of Tobyhanna, had a medical episode and lost consciousness on a left curve in the road. They said the F-150 struck the rear of a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Matthew A. Oswald, 40, of Tamaqua, before traveling onto the grassy median and striking a cable barrier.
Avosso was cited for driving while his license is suspended or revoked.
• Elizabeth Candelaria, 63, of Brodheadsville, and Robert M. Lasko, 58, of Saylorsburg, were hurt in a three-vehicle crash at 5:12 a.m. Nov. 19 on Route 33 in Bushkill Township.
Police said Candelaria was transported by personnel from the Cetronia Ambulance Corps to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hecktown, to be treated and evaluated for suspected minor injuries. Lasko was transported to the same facility by personnel from the Nazareth Ambulance Corps. The severity of his injuries is unknown, police said.
The crash occurred when Candelaria, driving a 2018 Toyota RAV4 southbound, rear-ended a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Justin M. Roussos, 39, of East Stroudsburg, that was disabled in the left lane of traffic due to a previous crash, police said. A 2008 Dodge Caravan operated by Lasko then struck the RAV4, forcing it off the road and trapping Candelaria.
The three vehicles were towed from the scene.
Candelaria and Lasko were cited after the crash, police said.
• A 17-year-old boy from Saylorsburg was cited for following too closely after a crash at 4:01 p.m. Nov. 11 on Interstate 78 in Lower Saucon Township. No one was injured in the crash.
Police said he was driving a 2008 Subaru Outback that struck the rear of a 2024 Hyundai Tucson operated by Toni M. Balzano, 58, of Bayonne, New Jersey, after the latter slowed for traffic.
• Police said a Slatington man experienced a medical episode while driving a 2009 Subaru Forester eastbound on Interstate 78 in Williams Township at 9:33 a.m. Nov. 11, causing his vehicle to hit the back of a tractor-trailer.
They said that Carl D. Moyer, 72, refused a medical transport.
Moyer’s vehicle hit the rear of a 2025 International Harvester operated by Eric R. Sabota, 55, of Westville, New Jersey, police said.
The Forester was towed from the scene, while the rig had functional damage.
• James L. Mattes Jr., 49, of Saylorsburg, was uninjured when his 2018 Dodge Ram truck a struck a deer on Route 33 in Plainfield Township.
The crash occurred at 4:32 a.m. Nov. 15 in the southbound lanes of the highway.
The truck was towed from the scene.
