Wittig to continue as school board president

Tamaqua Area School Board reorganized Tuesday night with Larry Wittig remaining as board president.

Nicholas Boyle will also continue as board vice president.

Meetings will also remain the same, with committee meetings at 7 p.m. on the second of Tuesday of the month and regular meetings at 7:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month.

The exception to the meeting schedule is in May, June, July and August, when the committee and regular meetings are held the same night — the third Tuesday of the month, beginning at 7 p.m.

All of the meetings are held in the middle school’s large group instruction room.

The committees also remain mostly unchanged.

Wittig will be the representative to the Intermediate Unit No. 29, and Trina Schellhammer will be the representative to Schuylkill Technology Center.

The committees and members are: auxiliary, Mark Rother, Thomas Bartasavage and Schellhammer; education, Dillman, Nancy Jones, Bryan Miller; finance, Daniel Schoener, Wittig and Boyle; health and welfare, Schellhammer and Melanie Dillman as alternate; hearing, Boyle, Miller, Bartasavage, Jones, Wittig as alternate.

Also, uniform, Schoener, Wittig and Bartasavage; security, Boyle, Bartasavage and Wittig; legislative awareness and PSBA representative, Wittig; EIT representative, Connie Ligenza, business administrator/board secretary, and Wittig as alternate; ESRC representative, Bartasavage, and Tamaqua Library representative, Dillman.

Board action

The board also acted on the following hires, reclassifications and reappointments:

Hired Elizabeth Hannon of Tamaqua as a special-education teacher at a salary of $59,703; Michael Walser of Tamaqua as a certified school nurse at a salary of $45,048; and Yarilis Valasco of Hazleton as a full-time health room assistant at a salary to be determined.

Reclassified Jennifer Hermany from part-time health room assistant to full-time certified school nurse at a salary of $45,048.

Reappointed Erik M. Helbing, of Bowe & Odorizzi Law, LLC, as solicitor for 2025 calendar year at a retainer of $5,200 and an hourly rate of $175.
