N. Lehigh administrator receives leadership award

Scott Pyne, Director of Educational Technology, Curriculum and Instruction for Northern Lehigh School District, was recently awarded the Pennsylvania Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development Outstanding Curriculum Leadership Award at the Brilliant Pathways — College For Every Student Conference in Hershey.

This recognition honors exceptional leadership in curriculum development, and was presented to Pyne for his contributions that have impacted the district’s students, staff, and educational programs.

Pyne’s nomination was initiated by Northern Lehigh School District Technology Integration Specialist Blasia Dunham, who recognized his leadership and dedication to improving the district’s instructional programs.

Superintendent Dr. Matthew J. Link submitted a letter of support for Pyne’s candidacy, highlighting his transformational impact and forward-thinking approach to education.

“We are all very proud of Mr. Pyne for winning this award because he is so well-deserving of it,” Link said. “He is a forward-thinking educational leader, and we are fortunate to have him on our team at NLSD.”

Pyne has served in various leadership roles in his nearly 15 years within the district, starting as the high school assistant principal, then principal of Slatington Elementary School before being promoted to his current position.

His leadership in driving a districtwide curriculum revision, particularly the adoption of the Amplify CKLA curriculum grounded in the Science of Reading, has led to significant improvements in literacy outcomes for students.

Additionally, his strategic use of grant funds to establish summer learning programs has resulted in sustained support for students beyond the initial funding, with these programs now being a core part of the district’s summer offerings.

Pyne established standards for the district’s Learning Management System, and has integrated ethical and innovative uses of artificial intelligence to support both instruction and operations. His initiatives, including AI-driven supports for learners and AI-enhanced teacher collaboration, have set a new standard for the responsible use of technology in education.

Pyne’s ongoing pursuit of a doctorate in educational leadership at Lehigh University reflects his commitment to continuous professional growth and his dedication to fostering a culture of lifelong learning within the district.

His recent appointment as vice president for the Eastern Region of PASCD further demonstrates his influence and leadership beyond Northern Lehigh.

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Tania Stoker also praised Pyne for his achievement.

“The PASCD Outstanding Curriculum Leadership Award is a testament to Mr. Pyne’s relentless pursuit of educational excellence, and his vision for curriculum development and innovation,” Stoker said. “We are all very proud of his achievement and look forward to his continued leadership and contributions.”
