Police report fatal shooting of 17-year-old in Monroe

Police in Monroe County are investigating a shooting death of a 17-year-old boy that happened Saturday at about 8:20 p.m. at the Wawa store on West Main Street in Stroudsburg.

The victim, who has not yet been identified, died around 9 o’clock that night in the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono, East Stroudsburg, according to the county coroner’s office. An autopsy has been ordered to be performed this week.

In a press release, the Stroud Area Regional Police Department, which is investigating the incident, said officers responded to a report of multiple shots having been fired at the store and upon arrival found the victim shot in the neck. Police said officers performed life saving measures on the victim until EMS services personnel arrived and took over care of the victim before transporting him to the hospital.

Police said detectives from the department were summoned to investigate the incident. They said the suspect fled the scene. Police’s initial investigation revealed the shooting was preceded by an argument that turned physical and involved multiple individuals inside the store. Police said during the argument, a male displayed a handgun and fired a single shot before fleeing the scene.

Police believe the incident is isolated. They are seeking information from witnesses who may have been at the scene. Anyone with information on this investigation or who may have witnessed the event or altercation leading up to the shooting, is asked to “submit a tip” at the department’s CrimeWatch website, monroe.crimewatchpa.com/sarpd.

Police said tipsters can leave their contact information for the investigating detective or can remain anonymous. Tipsters should reference the homicide identification No. 2024-29741 in providing information on the case.
