NOVEMBER 30, 1995

A major store in downtown Lansford is going out of business.

The Lansford 5 & 10, West Ridge Street, will begin a liquidation sale tomorrow and the store will close by the end of January, according to Tom Lux, owner of the business.

Lux also owns the Mauch Chunk and Mount Carmel 5 & 10 stores and in February will open a 5 & 10 store in downtown Lehighton at the site of the present McCrory’s 99-Cent Store.

He said his lease with the building owner, Alan Caesar of Great Neck, New York, expired Jan. 30 and he does not have a new lease.

The store employs three people and was originally a J.J. Newberry Store before Lux acquired the lease and made it a 5 & 10 store in 1988.
