A request for a solar farm in Mahoning Township has been scheduled for a conditional use hearing at 6 p.m. Dec. 4.

Solar Renewable Energy, LLC and Ashtown Road Solar Partners LLC, has applied for a request for a conditional use.

Melo Enterprises LLC for parcel No. 84-35-A2, and Leon A. George, II and Danielle M. George for Parcel No. 84-35-A2.

The property is located in an I-1 Research and Development and Industrial zoning district.

A section of the zoning ordinance permits the conditional use.

In June 2023, Sal Melo approached the board about putting a solar farm on property to the rear of 148 Ashtown Drive.

He said it would go on 30 acres of property that he owns across from George S. Transportation I.

Melo said it was done with consideration to reduce the impact on the neighborhood.
