Jim Thorpe Borough Police said the report of a body found Monday in Lehigh Gorge State Park was a false alarm.

Police and state park rangers responded to the report of a body discovered by a woman walking in a wooded area just west of Main Street around 4:30 p.m.

“Yesterday the Jim Thorpe Police Department was dispatched to the area of Chip Hill for a welfare check on a female not wearing any shoes, pacing back and forth on the roadway,” police said in a statement Tuesday morning. “Officers located the female who advised that her son was deceased in a tent down by the railroad tracks. A search of the area was conducted and no body was located. The female was taken to a medical facility for evaluation. JTPD would like to thank the agencies who assisted with this incident.”
