Valor makes community donations in Lansford
The Valor Clinic, headquartered in Jonas, has the main mission of helping homeless military veterans.
On Saturday, the Clinic brought some surplus items such as coats, shoes, and other living necessity to Lansford and offered the items free of charge to local residents.
Supplementing their generosity, members of the Marian Catholic High School Relief Services Club offered chili, cookies and hot chocolate.
Scores of people capitalized on the event, held in the parking lot of St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Center along West Patterson Street.
Labeled “Stand Down” by Valor Clinic, the occurrence was overseen by Christine M. LeClair, director of Carbon County Office on Veterans Affairs.
“We had a pretty steady flow of people,” LeClair said, looking over several dozen boxes that had been filled with clothing and other items.
She said the “Stand Down” events are held quarterly; the third Saturday of April, August and November. Next year all the Stand Downs will be held at the St. Luke’s parking lot in Lansford.
Although the Stand Down was intended to provide local residents with necessities, many people brought bags of goods — including bed sheets and other household items — which they donated to Valor. The organization had two box trucks on the premises to transport the items.
LeClair said, “I’m proud of the students from Marian coming out to help.”
Mary Matunis was present at the faculty advisor.
Students who assisted were Emily Stawiarski, Maisie Petschauer, Esme Petschauer, Alyssa Porambo, Gianna Giannelli, Maggie Turrano.
Also Tyler Berlanda, Gavin Zola, Connor Rehnert, Nick Polakovic, Noah McGinley and exchange student Mateeo Steffe from Italy.
