Former Allentown vice officer charged with stealing cash from raid
Theft and related charges have been filed against a former Allentown Police Department vice officer.
The charges were announced Friday by Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan.
Jason M. Krasley, 47, of Upper Milford Township, is charged with theft and receiving stolen property, both felonies; and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, a misdemeanor.
Krasley surrendered Friday and was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Rashid Santiago and released on $100,000 unsecured bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Dec. 5 before Santiago.
An investigation determined that Krasley stole $5,500 in cash while acting in his duties as an Allentown vice officer and concealed the theft of that cash, according to the district attorney.
A search warrant was served on May 16, 2019, at the Washington Barbershop, located at 1129 Hamilton St. The items being searched for and seized included cocaine, paraphernalia and currency, as well as other evidence related to drug-trafficking activities. Several Allentown police officers were present at the search, including Krasley.
Based in part on evidence seized from the barbershop, the owner of the shop pleaded guilty to drug dealing and did not contest the state’s petition seeking forfeiture of $18,664 in cash.
As part of the investigation, a photo was taken of an inventory receipt dated May 16, 2019, that identifies $16,000 in cash as having been found in the basement ceiling of the shop.
The investigation later determined that a second inventory receipt was completed at the Allentown police vice unit office indicating that $10,500 in cash was found in the basement ceiling.
The money recovered was counted again later that day at the vice unit office and $5,500 was found to be missing. An investigation into the missing money determined that Krasley stole the money, the district attorney said.
The case was investigated by a Lehigh County investigating grand jury as well as Lehigh County Detectives Gregg Dietz and Lt. James Bruchak.
The grand Jury heard testimony presented by First Assistant District Attorney Eric K. Dowdle.
The presentment was approved by Judge Thomas M. Caffrey, supervising judge of the investigating grand jury.
The case will be prosecuted Dowdle.
