United Parcel Service will close its customer service center in Hometown on Sunday.
“It is only the customer counter that will close, not the entire building,” explained Tom Farrell, UPS spokesman.
Notices of the permanent closure were recently posted at the 4 Liberty St. facility in Rush Township.
Farrell said UPS is closing “select UPS customer centers to better align with our customers’ preferences for more convenient and easily accessible drop-off options.”
Prepackaged and pre-labeled shipments will continue to be accepted at an on-site UPS drop box and packages for pick up will be routed to the nearest UPS Access Point location.
Those who have packages requiring shipping labels or additional packing supplies will need to be taken to UPS full-service retail shipping locations.
The closest site to Hometown is The UPS Store in Hazleton.
There are also UPS drop boxes scattered throughout the area, including one near M & T Bank in Tamaqua.
“Alternatively, if customers need to simply pick up or drop off packages, our network of more than 20,000 nearby UPS Access Point locations are available. Access Point locations are available at independent merchants such as local delis, pharmacies, dry cleaners, and florists, as well as national partners such as The UPS Store, Michael’s and CVS,” Farrell said.
