Club donates to Carbon County Veterans Affairs

A club dedicated to helping the community honored area veterans during the Carbon County Veterans Day ceremony with funds to keep a program running.

Last week, the Notre Dame Club of Schuylkill County presented Christine LeClair, director of the Carbon County Veterans Affairs office, with a check for $2,000 to be used for Together with Veterans NEPA.

Stephanie McCarroll, president of the Notre Dame Club of Schuylkill County, presented the donation as part of the annual county Veterans Day program.

“Our goal and our mission is to give back, a force for good for the community,” she said. “We do a lot of fundraising activities in both Schuylkill and Carbon County and that money goes back to agencies that can help others.”

The money the club presented to Carbon County was the benefits from a golf tournament members held earlier this year.

“We hope that it will help a little bit for the veterans in the Carbon County area,” McCarroll said.

LeClair said that Together with Veterans is a suicide prevention and awareness program that aims to provide outreach opportunities to area veterans in the communities.

Some programs the county chapter holds is the annual Veterans Day banquet at Penn’s Peak, a monthly coffee club for Vietnam veterans, counseling services, PTSD support groups and more.

“We are getting out there, addressing mental health concerns,” LeClair said. “Thank you so much. This check will do a lot of good for our local events.”
