I-78 crash claims life of New Jersey woman

A one-vehicle crash Monday at 12:07 a.m. on Interstate 78 in Upper Saucon Township claimed the life of a New Jersey woman.

Ciarra Sanchez, 19, of Fairview, was pronounced dead at the scene by a Lehigh County deputy coroner.

State police at the Fogelsville barracks said they initially received a report from a complainant who told them the victim’s phone was “pinging” in the same location for about two hours. Troopers were dispatched to locate the victim in the area of mile marker 60 and located a 2010 Honda CRV about 200 feet west of the location, about 100 feet from the roadway.

They said the vehicle had disabling damage to its front bumper and engine portion, with the engine pushed into the firewall of the vehicle.

Police said all of the doors were damaged, preventing entry to the vehicle, and the rear driver’s-side window was broken to gain access.
