State police report on vehicle stops

State police at Lehighton released information on the following cases:

• Larry Eager, 55, of Drexel Hill, is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol according to state police at the Lehighton barracks.

Police said he was driving a 1998 Cadillac that was stopped at the intersection of Interchange Road and Rock Street in Franklin Township at 6:50 p.m. May 24 for a motor vehicle code violation, after which time police took him into custody for suspicion of DUI.

Police did not identify the suspects in the following pending cases:

• A driver who was stopped in a state police checkpoint operation was found to have marijuana in his possession at 1:02 p.m. May 27 in the area of Pohopoco Drive and Green Street near the Beltzville State Park in Franklin Township.

State police at the Lehighton barracks said the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado entered the regulatory area at which time the drugs were seized.

• Police said the passenger in a car that was stopped in Towamensing Township will be cited for possession of marijuana.

A stop was made at 11:20 a.m. May 26 at Pohopoco Drive and Pine Run Road and police detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Police said the passenger admitted to having the drug in his possession.

In a similar report, police said the driver of a vehicle stopped for violations at 11 a.m. May 24 along Lehigh Drive in Palmerton will also face drug possession charges, as well as a charge of driving under the influence of drugs.

Police said they observed signs of impairment of the driver after the stop, while also smelling marijuana from inside the 2005 Ford.

• A 36-year old woman from Lansford is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol as a result of a traffic stop at 2:07 a.m. May 25 at the intersection of Fireline Road and Maple Drive in Lower Towamensing Township.

Police said the woman was stopped for a motor vehicle code violation. It was determined she was under the influence of alcohol. The charges are pending the results of laboratory tests, police said.

• Police were called at 9:54 p.m. May 17 to Interchange Road in Franklin Township for a welfare check.

Police said the suspect was observed in the driver’s seat of his 2007 Chevrolet Silverado and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

• A traffic stop made by police for a motor vehicle code violation resulted in the driver facing drug possession charges.

It happened at 3:47 p.m. May 24 at the intersection of White Street and Lehigh Alley in Bowmanstown.

Police said they detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the 1996 Mercury Sable, after which time they found and seized a small amount of marijuana from the vehicle.

• Police said a traffic stop made for a motor vehicle code violation at 8:55 p.m. May 23 along Summer Mountain Road in East Penn Township resulted in the driver being charged with possession of drugs.

Police said a trooper approaching the vehicle detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the 2012 Mazda 3. Police then found and seized a small amount of marijuana from the vehicle.

• A driver who was stopped for a motor vehicle code violation at 2:23 a.m. June 1 at the intersection of Hahn’s Dairy Road and Hemp Hill Lane in Lower Towamensing Township is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police made the stop of the 2016 Chevrolet Equinox and said charges are pending the results of laboratory testing.

• On May 28 about 1:48 p.m. a vehicle stop was made along Route 248 at the Bowmanstown exit for a vehicle code violation. The 20-year-old East Penn Township female driver was found to be under the influence of marijuana. Troopers said driving under the influence and drug counts will be filed pending test results.

• On May 15 about 11:18 a.m. troopers responded to a crash along Shady Oak Drive East, in Ross Township, Monroe County. Upon arrival troopers made contact with the suspect inside an ambulance that was also on scene. The suspect admitted using illegal drugs and drinking alcohol prior to the crash. Charges are being filed, troopers said.
