Nesquehoning man charged, jailed

A Nesquehoning man faces charges after causing a disturbance outside the borough police station.

Jacob Canzoneri, 42, of East Garibaldi Avenue, was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, defiant trespass, harassment, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.

He was jailed in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning in lieu of $25,000 bail.

According to arrest papers, Canzoneri was sitting on the ground at the front door of the police station on West Railroad Street when an officer pulled up just after 10 a.m. Oct. 31.

He told the officer that he needed a police report faxed to a pharmacy, and the officer advised him of the department policy and explained the police chief would be in the next day.

Canzoneri became irate and demanded that the officer fax the report, and he was again advised of the policy. Canzoneri then demanded that the officer call the chief and have him fax the report, court papers said.

The officer told Canzoneri that he was sorry, but he could not do that, and parked his vehicle. Canzoneri followed the officer around the side of the building, and began ranting unintelligibly, as he approached the officer, court papers said.

The officer told him to leave or he would get into trouble, but Canzoneri continued to approach him. The officer went into the police building.

Canzoneri then began banging on the employee door, screaming at the officer to call the chief and other officers to fax the report, court papers said.

The officer called for another officer to respond, and Canzoneri paced in the parking lot, screaming that he was going to go to jail that day, court papers said.

Another officer arrived and told Canzoneri the same thing, but Canzoneri continued to yell and scream. The officer warned him about his behavior and Canzoneri left.

Canzoneri then pulled up in a vehicle, parked and again began banging on the front door and yelling. An officer answered the door and the other officer called for additional officers to respond.

Canzoneri walked away and sat inside his vehicle. Other officers from Lansford and Jim Thorpe arrived and boxed in his vehicle.

A Nesquehoning officer approached and advised him that he was under arrest for trespass and disorderly conduct. Canzoneri refused to cooperate.

Officers attempted to gain entry using a “lockout tool,” which Canzoneri grabbed and bent, court papers said. An officer attempted to use pepper spray, and Canzoneri strapped himself into the vehicle, court papers said.

An officer broke a window to take him into custody, but Canzoneri refused to comply. Officers then used pepper spray, and after a period of time, were able to restrain Canzoneri, court papers said.

A Jim Thorpe officer was injured and had to seek medical attention, court papers said.

According to court papers, a preliminary hearing for Canzoneri has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Nov. 13 before District Judge Beth Dodson.
