A New York man faces forgery, theft and related charges after a fraudulent purchase of a generator from Lowe’s in Mahoning Township in August.
Luis A. Medina-Badio, of Bronx, was arraigned Oct. 30 by District Judge Beth Dodson and jailed at the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning in lieu of $25,000 straight cash bail.
According to court papers, Medina-Badio picked up a Craftsman 3,300 watt generator valued at $879 purchased through an online order. Store personnel verified his name matched the authorized user for the transaction.
Medina-Badio loaded the generator and left the area at 9:54 p.m. The store received a call at 10 p.m. that the order was fraudulent and not authorized, court papers said.
Lowe’s provided security images showing Medina-Badio at other Lowe’s stores attempting similar activity, and the store fraud team confirmed three other fraud cases, with more pending.
A preliminary hearing for Medina-Badio is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Nov. 13 before Dodson, according to court papers.
