Fire crews have suspended operations on the Blue Mountain overnight and will return Sunday to battle the massive wildfire new the intersection of Route 873 and Route 248 outside of Palmerton.

Lehigh Township Fire Department posted, “All crews have been pulled off the mountain for the night for safety concerns.”

The department said there is a command center established in the township monitoring and tracking the fire.

“At this time the officers of the FD and various state and local agencies are developing a plan of action to contain the fire. What we would ask is to please stay clear of the area, there will be numerous aircrafts and heavy equipment arriving in the morning.”

“Everyone made it off the mountain safe and no injuries reported..... That’s what matters!”

Some residents have reported being on standby for evacuation.

“Units will be deployed to any homes that become threatened well before a threat arrives. Thank you for your continued support and concern,” the fire company said.

Volunteer firefighters from Lehigh, Northampton and Carbon counties have been on site, as well as the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

The fire company has asked people who want to help to bring donations of bottled water to the fire company headquarters.

“Between 11-1 we will have our fundraising team accepting donations of water or anything you wish for the firefighters. If you come late or early... just leave it at the side entrances with your name if you would like. We thank you all for everything you do for us!” the company posted.
