Dealing with solar installations is on the mind of Schuylkill County officials.
On the agenda for next week’s commissioners meeting is authorization to advertise for a public hearing to get public comment into redoing the county zoning ordinance and the county subdivision and land development ordinance.
An amendment would set forth requirements for the development, construction, operation and decommissioning of solar energy systems.
Also, the amendment would address wind turbines, for which an emergency response plan must be submitted to the Schuylkill County Emergency Management Agency.
The amendment to the county’s subdivision and land development ordinance is to set forth requirements for principal ground-mounted solar energy systems.
Also on the agenda Wednesday will be a measure to engage professional services to assist the county in updating its 10-year municipal solid waste plan.
The consultant will also assist the county in preparing its Act 901 Solid Waste application; the formation of a Solid Waste Advisory Committee; and to aid the county in the request of state Department of Environmental Protection for all these services.
The commissioners are also expected to vote to submit a $1,141,707 application to the Department of Community and Economic Development for the Community Development Block Grant program for fiscal year 2024.
