TASD discusses stadium, field upgrades

Tamaqua Area School Board members learned about some projects involving the stadium grounds and baseball field at their committee meeting Tuesday night.

Superintendent Ray Kinder said the district has more vehicles than it ever had and needs more storage in order to maintain and sustain them.

The district is considering an expansion or an additional pole building, which was one of the facilities projects identified during the budget process, he said.

One of the potential sites being evaluated involves relocating the football concession stand, and those involved are on board with moving the stand, Kinder said.

“They will be better able to watch some of their kids participate in the games,” he said.

The district has someone to start working on early drawings and will come back to the board for any necessary approvals, Kinder said.

“We just wanted to give you the heads up,” he said. “We would like to have this be something that is done coming into next summer and then the next school year.”

Kinder also told the board that they may see some higher bills from Latshaw Landscaping for drainage work on the district’s baseball field.

The district has struggled with drainage on the field since it was installed more than 20 years ago, and they’re looking for a permanent solution, he said.

Latshaw will begin work this week, and they hope to have the field ready for the baseball season, Kinder said.

Costs were not available as the projects are in the early stages.
