Coaldale Borough Supervisor Andy Mikolay, a resident of Seek who signed on as a laborer with the borough crew back in 1926, recently marked his 50th year of service in the community.

At age 65, Mikolay still appears to be as fit as the proverbial fiddle and in addition to working outdoors in all kinds of weather, he is on-call 24 hours a day.

He was named to the position of supervisor in 1933, succeeding James Fisher, and has been a member of the Coaldale Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 for 40 years, including 17 years in which he held the position of fire chief. In 1943-44, he helped to organize the widely-known Coaldale Victory Band.
