Lions sponsor Pink Light Walk Tuesday in Lehighton

The Lehighton Area Lioness Lions Club will host its 19th annual Pink Light Walk on Tuesday at the Lehighton Boys and Girls Band Hall.

The breast cancer awareness event will begin at 4 p.m. The walk starts at 6 p.m. Before the walk, participants may purchase basket raffle tickets.

Pink Heels Ambulance will also make an appearance. There will also be a vendor area.

“Our Pink Light Walk is dedicated to our late Lion Cleo Balliet, who passed away in June,” said Brenda Green, vice president of the Lehighton Area Lioness Lions Club. “She was a breast cancer survivor and she was very dedicated to our Lions Club’s fight for the cure.”

Green added that the walk will be led by Stephanie Reinhart Grammes on her breast cancer themed motorcycle.

Weather-permitting, there will be a group of bagpipers playing to greet the walkers as they arrive at the amphitheater, she said.

Green said there will be a short ceremony at the amphitheater recognizing breast cancer survivors. Guest speakers will include Gretchen Cash, St. Luke’s University Health Network nurse navigator, as well as breast cancer survivor Lisa DiRico.

She noted this is the first year for the Pink Light Walk Sponsorship Program, and acknowledged the following for their generosity:

Hot Pink Level: St Luke’s University Health Network; Pink Ribbon Level: Lehigh Valley Health Network, Brad Maier/State Farm; Survivor Level: Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank, Mauch Chunk Trust Company; Fuchsia Level: Carbon Search & Settlement, Bennett Family Properties, Walmart, Blue Mountain Resort, Lehighton Outdoor Center, Mauch Chunk Museum.

All event proceeds go to the PA Breast Cancer Coalition, Green said.

Walkers can preregister online at https://tinyurl.com/pinklight24, or may go to the club Facebook page (Lehighton Area Lioness Lions Club Official) and use the QR code to register. Be sure to indicate if you are a survivor or supporter.

The event is free and will be held rain or shine.
