Pizza deadline
McMichaels UMC is having a pizza sale for 12-inch cheese pizzas. The ordering deadline is Thursday.
Orders are being taken by Martha Stout at 570-992-6742. Pickup is at McMichaels Church on Saturday, Sept. 28, by noon.
Eldred Clean up
Fall Clean-Up Days are being held in Eldred Township. Hours are 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m.-noon Saturday.
It is free for Eldred residents, except for tires. People can bring items including small appliances, furniture, car seats, bicycles, mattresses, lawn furniture, old grills and baby items.
Men’s breakfast
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, is again hosting its men’s breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
Chestnuthill Archery
On Saturday, Chestnuthill Archery will be gathering at Effort UMC’s pavilion from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
ReStore Grand Opening
The Monroe County Habitat for Humanity ReStore ribbon-cutting celebration for its grand opening is set for 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the store site at 2610 Milford Road in East Stroudsburg.
The store will be open from after the ribbon-cutting at 10:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Welcome back
The Rev. Ed Kimes will be visiting the Effort UMC church for both the 8:30 and 11 a.m. services.
Library celebration
The Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville, is celebrating its 50th anniversary on Sunday from 1-4 p.m.
The community is invited to join the celebration, which will includes live music by Chris Eckert, family activities and light refreshments.
WPCL items will be available for purchase (cash only).
Presentations begin promptly at 1 p.m., and patrons are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Photo deadline
Monroe County Conservation District Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center’s Photo Contest deadline is Friday.
Folks can send photos that showcase Monroe County’s finest natural resources. Winners will receive maple syrup from Meesing Sugarbush and a 2025 MCCD calendar.
One grand prize winner will also be featured on the cover of the MCCD’S 2025 calendar.

Bonfires scheduled
The traditional bonfires for two age groups has been announced.
The high school bonfire will be held Tuesday, beginning at 6:30 p.m., while the middle school bonfire is to begin at 6 p.m. next Wednesday.
Both are being held in Brodheadsville.
Legion event
Be The One, the American Legion’s Veteran Suicide Prevention program, will be the beneficiary of an event at Post 927 in Gilbert taking place from 2-6 p.m. Saturday, with a rain date of Sept. 28.
There will be food trucks, family fun and kids games.
There is a charge, but no admission fee for children 10 and under.

Soup sale now
Effort UMC is again accepting orders for its soup sale. Soups for September are lentil with sausage and loaded baked potato.
The sale runs through Sept. 25, with the pickup date of Sunday, Sept. 29, after each service. Order forms are on the church’s website.

Habitat fundraiser
Monroe County’s Habitat for Humanity is holding its 27th Annual Golf Tournament fundraiser on Sept. 25 at Great Bear Golf Club.

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, is holding a precious junk sale from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 27 and Sept. 28.
Funds realized will support the various ministries of the church.
MCCD Art show
Monroe County Conservation District is showcasing the works of Heather Sheurs in the Gallery at Kettle Creek for the month of September. She is a photographer living with her family in the Pocono Mountains.
Her work is deeply rooted in connection and slowing down. Using vintage lenses and alternative photographic processes, she aims to give the viewer an immersive experience into the botanicals that inspire and ground her.
The gallery is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and will also be open Sept. 28 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Survival skills event
Monroe County Conservation District is hosting a free Survival Skills for Adults event on Sept. 28, from 10 a.m.-noon. It is for ages 14 and up.
The workshop is being sponsored by Northampton Community College. Thanks to a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and other donors, the program is being offered free of charge.

Food pantry needs
Effort UMC’s Supplemental Food Resource Center is requesting donations of holiday foods such as canned vegetables including corn, green beans, carrots, beets, yams, cranberry sauce, etc., plus instant mashed potatoes and, of course, turkey or hams.
Eldred playground
Eldred Township has received a grant to create a plan for the playground next to the Community Center (the old Eldred Elementary School) on the design of the park on a plus or minus 1.5-acre former ball field between the municipal building and the community center.
An event is planned to include the public in the planning stage of the project at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Eldred Community Center.
All generations are invited to help the planner do the best job to include everyone’s ideas.
The supervisors are requesting public participation to determine the needs and want of township residents regarding this project.
October fall festival
Monroe County Conservation District is hosting a “spook-tacular” Friday Night Fall Festival from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 4. Dive into the spirit of the event with creative crafts, exciting games and nighttime adventures, beginning with a hike to discover the secrets of nocturnal animals and their unique adaptations.
The night will be capped off with s’mores and stories around the campfire. Participants are encouraged to dress in a fall theme or wear a Halloween costume.
Folks must preregister in advance. There is a cost.

Fall flea market
The Women’s Group at Effort will be holding its semiannual flea market from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 5. Space rental is one rate with your own table; utilizing a church table and space is another rate.

Pet blessing
Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville will hold its Blessing of the Pets at 1 p.m. Oct. 6.
Participants are to meet in front of the parish hall, inside if it rains.
All animals are welcome, but must be appropriately caged or leashed.
Fall sale ahead
St. John’s Lutheran Church, 164 Merwinsburg Road, Effort, has announced it is having a fall rummage and bake sale from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 11 and 12,
Items for sale will include clothes (ladies, men’s, children) shoes, coats, household goods, toys, books, knickknacks, etc., depending on what is donated.
The kitchen will be open for lunch and baked goods will be for sale, too.

Grief support
The Western Pocono Community Library has partnered with St. Luke’s Hospice to offer free monthly adult grief support. Sign-ups are not needed and the groups are free and open to everyone.
The first group will meet Oct. 16 from 1-2:30 p.m. Additional meetings for 2024 will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 13 and Nov. 27 (grief at the holidays session), and Dec. 11. For more information, contact St. Luke’s Hospice Bereavement Team at 484-526-2499.
Fall sale set
Middlecreek’s annual and rummage sale will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 18 and from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 19.
There will also be fresh baked goods, quarts of soup for sale, and the kitchen will be selling hot dogs and other treats.
