Photo contest

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center’s 2025 Photo Contest is underway.

Folks should send photos that showcase Monroe County’s finest natural resources. Winners will receive maple syrup from the Meesing Sugarbush and a 2025 MCCD calendar.

Submissions are due Sept. 20. One grand prize winner will also be featured on the cover of the MCCD’S 2025 calendar.

Soup sale set

Effort UMC will be back to accepting orders for its soup sales. Soups for September are lentil with sausage and loaded baked potato.

Sale runs through Sept. 25 with the pick-up date of Sunday, Sept. 29, after each service. Order forms are on the church’s Welcome Center.

Go W.E. golfers

Habitat for Humanity has announced its 27th annual golf tournament fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity on Sept. 25 at Great Bear Golf Club. Registration is at 11:30 a.m.

Precious junk sale

Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, has announced its Precious Junk Sale. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 27 and Sept. 28.

Proceeds help the ministries of the church.

Hot dogs, coffee, cold drinks, and chips will be available for purchase.

Drivers needed

Drivers are needed for the county Meals on Wheels program. One can choose how often and what day one would like to help others.

MCCD art show

The works of Heather Sheurs will be on display in the Gallery at Kettle Creek for the month of September. She is a photographer living with her family in the Pocono Mountains.

Her work is deeply rooted in connection and slowing down. Using vintage lenses and alternative photographic processes, Heather aims to give the viewer an immersive experience into the botanicals that inspire and ground her.

The gallery is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will also be open Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Pre-registration is not required for this program. There is no charge.

Fall Festival ahead

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church has announced its annual fall festival for Sept. 28, beginning at 12:30 p.m.

The festival will include a trunk-or-treat event for children.

Brookmont event

On Sunday, Sept. 29, Brookmont in Effort will host a fall community event from noon to 4 p.m. There will be a senior health fair with various activities and fun for the whole family, including foods and a bounce house; snacks; and a chance to meet the community’s heroes, including fire, police and ambulance personnel.

Ham dinner

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, is having a ham takeout dinner on Oct. 19. Dinner includes ham, filling with gravy, carrots, applesauce, roll and choice of molasses or upside down pineapple cake.

Orders must be placed by calling 570-688-5381 no later than Oct. 6. Pick up dinners at the church between 4 and 5:30 p.m. Oct. 19.

The church is also taking orders for celery seed dressing: quarts and pints. For costs, call the church at the above number.
