The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists traveling that the Northeast Extension (Interstate 476) will be closed in both directions between the Wyoming Valley (Exit 115) and the Pocono (Exit 95) interchanges on Sunday and Monday from midnight until 5 a.m.
The closure is required for bridge work and is weather permitting.
If all the work is completed on Sunday morning, the second closure will not be required.
During the closure, traffic will be directed off the turnpike and drivers can use the following suggested detours to get back on the turnpike.
Northbound Detour: Interstate 80 West 16.8 miles, Interstate 81 North 23.6 miles, Route 315 North 0.3 miles and reenter at Wyoming Valley Interchange 115.
Southbound Detour: Route 315 South 1.4 miles, I-81 South 23.7 miles, I-80 East 16.8 miles, and reenter at Pocono Interchange 95
Pennsylvania State Police and turnpike personnel will be positioned at the affected areas to assist drivers.
Digital message signs will also provide information on the closure. Motorists are encouraged to plan travel accordingly.
Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions.
