Palmerton honors volunteer firefighters
A trio of Palmerton firefighters were recognized for their roles in containing a fire earlier this month in the borough.
Borough council on Thursday presented a proclamation to firefighters Franklin Haas, Charles Kistler and Austin Wilburn.
Councilman Kris Hoffner read the proclamation which stemmed from a fire that broke out at 10 a.m. Aug. 6 at a home at 252 Lafayette Ave.
Three people, all of whom were at home at the time the fire broke out, were displaced from their home, though no one was injured.
Hoffner thanked the firefighters for limiting the damage and saving the home.
He noted that the conditions that day were extremely hot, with the temperature at 95 degrees.
“If you would have seen these (guys) that day,” Hoffner said. “They were soaked, like they just came out of the shower.”
Hoffner noted that the volunteer members of the fire company train diligently to ensure safe and effective fire response.
In addition, he said the firefighters demonstrated the extensive training in their response to the fire, and in doing so minimized property damage and loss.
Borough fire Chief Jason Behler lauded the three men for their work.
“I couldn’t be more proud of these three individuals,” Behler said. “They were able to do their job flawlessly, not only these three (men), but everybody.”
Behler emphasized how the firefighter training paid off in an instance such as this.
“The house is being restored,” he said. “I’m just overly proud of them.”
