Francis Mongi, 229 West Bertsch Street, Lansford, has been appointed to a high position with the State Department of the AMVETS.

He began the term of “liaison officer” immediately after his appointment by State Commander Vaughn Brown of Lancaster.

Mongi will represent the state commander between veterans, auxiliaries and Sad Sack organizations and will serve as chairman of the Affiliated Organization Committee.

He served as the state department’s first vice commander from 1951-52 and second vice commander from 1953-54. He is also a past two-term commander of the Lansford AMVETS Post and is currently serving his third term as president of the local post’s home association.
