Friday night was Northern Lehigh’s rescheduled National Night Out. The original event, slated for the first Tuesday in August, was postponed because of rain.
Slatington and Slatedale’s fire company ladder trucks made an arch at the entrance.
Superintendent of Northern Lehigh School District Matthew Link, along with Chief David Jones of the school security force, welcomed residents that came out to have fun.
Slatington Police Chief Greg Winokur, said, “It’s a pleasure to be here tonight for the 2nd Annual Northern Lehigh National Night Out. This evening is about fostering positive relationships between our law enforcement officers and the community we serve as well as the fun and festivities. Thanks to all the volunteers from the community, law enforcement and first responders. Together we can keep the spirit of community and cooperation alive throughout the year.”
Mayor Jeralyn Schoch spoke next about first responders are all heroes and outstanding Eric Brady and Michelle Bisbing of the Northern Valley Ambulance demonstrated The Lucas 2, a device that does automatic chest compressions on a patient in cardiac arrest. It gives the medical personnel free hands to give medicine or whatever else the patient may need.
Slatington Fire Department gave free cotton candy to everyone.
Jeff Hausman and Joe Mead of Emerald Fire Department gave out booklets on Pennsylvania Emergency Preparedness.

Sgt. Deron Dorward of Slatington Police Department, showed Caden and Rylen Rodriguez around his police cruiser and they got to activate the siren.
