Dance with Kim hosts class to strengthen dance skills
It’s a way for aspiring dancers to strengthen their dance skills.
A two-day dance intensive featuring the industry’s top dance professionals was recently held at Dance with Kim in Lehighton.
The ninth annual Dancer Mania was held Monday and Tuesday at the dance studio.
Kim Semmel, director/owner of Dance with Kim, said that as part of the event, guest teachers came in every day.
Brittany Pry, co-owner/artistic director, Dance with Kim, said that included a special appearance by Bailey Callahan from the Radio City Rockettes.
Other guest teachers included Jeff Foote, Jenna Kroboth, Olivia Mailey and Stephanie McDermott.
Semmel said a total of 49 dancers participated in the event, which is aimed to increase their technical skills and explore choreography and improvisation.
“I find that guest instructors expose our dancers to different styles and ways of teaching that broadens their movement vocabulary and helps them achieve their dance goals,” Semmel said. “Being exposed to dance professionals can inspire students to learn more about the fundamentals of teaching, choreography and the entertainment business.
“I believe it inspires a lifelong love of the arts.”
The dancers agreed.
“I look forward to learning from new instructors each year at Dancer Mania, and this year I thoroughly enjoyed learning precision jazz from Bailey Callahan, a Radio City Rockette,” said Cassie Hager. “I have looked up to the Rockettes since I was a little girl, so learning Rockette-esqe choreography was very cool to me.”
“My favorite part about dancer mania was the tap classes with Jeffery Foote,” said Camille McClintic. “I have always loved tap and learning new steps and combinations.
“He was just so fun and kind. I have always wanted to be a dance teacher but specifically a tap dancer teacher.”
“I really enjoyed getting to learn and practice dance styles I don’t regularly get to practice,” said Zoe Rodgers. “Learning with different teachers and experiencing different teaching styles is also one of my favorite parts of Dancer Mania.
“Overall, the whole experience was fun and enjoyable.”
Semmel said they are looking forward to their 10th annual Dancer Mania to be even bigger and better.
