Tamaqua police reported the following incidents:

• Police charged Anthony Martinico, 24, of Tamaqua, with harassment following an 1:45 p.m. incident on Aug. 3.

Police said they were called to Hunter Street for an assault and were met by Martinico, who claimed that a woman punched him in the face four times following an argument.

Officers interviewed the woman, who said that Martinico was banging on her door so violently that the dead bolt broke. She opened the door as Martinico was yelling at her, police said. She said she punched or pushed Martinico to get him away and out of her apartment.

Police also charged Martinico with disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.

• A South Carolina man was cited for a hit and run by police following a 6:06 p.m. Aug. 4 incident.

Police said they were called to the area of Center and West Spruce streets for a report of a telephone pole and wires down. Witnesses said a white tractor-trailer heading north on Route 309 was responsible.

According to police, Rush Township police stopped the vehicle, which was driven by Maurice Samuels, 63, of Charleston.

Tamaqua police assisted with the traffic stop and said Samuels explained that he had been driving the same route since 2005 and did not realize he had struck the pole. Police said there was damage to the truck’s side mirror and passenger door.

• Matthew Kern, 32, of Tamaqua, was charged with retail theft for taking candy bar from a borough convenience store, police said.

According to officers, the incident occurred at 11:55 p.m. A clerk said Kern purchased a beer and while on his way out, he grabbed a candy bar valued at $2.79.

Police reviewed surveillance footage from the store and were able to obtain an image of the suspect. Police posted the photo on the department’s Facebook page and learned Kern’s identity the following day.
