Members of the Tamaqua Planning Commission gave support to the proposed Majestic Hotel conversion into an apartment complex for the elderly last night, recommending variances approval to the borough’s zoning hearing board.

The former hotel and movie house located at Pine and Broad streets in the downtown area of Tamaqua has been purchased by Majestic Associates of New York City, which plans to renovate the interior of the structure, offering apartment living for the elderly.

The complex would house 74 apartments, 67 of which would contain a kitchen, living room, bath and single bedroom. Six apartments would have two bedrooms.
