State police at Lehighton - crashes

State police at the Lehighton barracks reported the following crashes:

• David W. Reith, 19, of Hellertown, sustained possible injuries in a two-vehicle crashes at 6:40 p.m. July 28 at the intersection of Dotters Corner Road and the Jonas Road in Polk Township.

Police said he was transported by personnel from the West End Fire Company to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono, East Stroudsburg.

They said the crash occurred when a 2016 Honda Pilot driven by Howard A. Smith, 88, of Kunkletown, emerged from the intersection and traveled directly into the path of a 2015 Honda Versa driven by Reith, striking its front end.

• No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 5:10 p.m. July 27 on West Ridge Street in Lansford.

Police said it happened when Erin J. Poeldnurk, 35, of Coaldale, driving a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox, attempted to back out of a parking stall and struck a passing 2015 Mazda CX9 driven by Arielle M. Schmitt, 33, of Lansford.

Police said both vehicles had disabling damages.

Poeldnurk was issued a warning, police said.

• Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 11:49 p.m. July 26 on Forest Inn Road in Towamensing Township.

Police said Alexis M. Soltis, 22, of Walnutport, was transported by personnel from the Palmerton Community Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township.

She was a passenger in a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis that was driven by Jared D. Zacharias, 22, of Palmerton.

Police said the crash occurred when a 2013 Lincoln MKS driven by Robert L. Shivers, 19, of Lansford, crashed head-on into the Grand Marquis. They said Shivers was actively fleeing from police on Interchange Road when he turned south onto the Forest Inn Road. The car left the lane of travel, attempted to pass another vehicle and crashed head-on into Zacharias’ vehicle.

Police said the two drivers were taken to the hospital by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association. Police said they sustained suspected minor injuries.

A 16-year-old boy from Palmerton who was also with Zacharias was uninjured, police said.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene, police said.
