Three rescued from Lehigh River

Emergency personnel were dispatched Saturday afternoon to a rescue on the Lehigh River. The incident occurred just after 2 p.m. when it was reported three elderly women slipped out of their rafts and were clinging to Bowman’s island.

The Lehighton fire company launched their motorized raft in East Penn township and traveled down stream to rescue the women.

The three victims were handed off to two Lehighton paramedic units awaiting them along the D & L trail. Assisting at the scene were members of the Bowmanstown fire company and East Penn Township fire company.

Several fire police agencies were at the scene maintaining traffic control and security.
