An inmate at the Carbon County prison in Nesquehoning faces charges for bringing drugs into the facility in March.
Timmy Priest Sr., 40, was charged with contraband-controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance by an inmate, intentional possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Priest was arraigned by District Judge Beth Dodson last week and set bail at $15,000. He remains in prison. A preliminary hearing is scheduled in August.
According to court papers, several inmates tested positive for methamphetamine in the restricted housing unit of the facility, and a powdered drink packet containing methamphetamine was found in Priest’s cell along with notes asking for “more” and saying they will “square up” with him.
Staff also monitored Priest’s phone calls, and learned that he brought the drug into the jail by concealing it, court papers said. Priest asked for an attorney and refused to speak to county detectives who went to interview him about the incident.
