Lehighton’s newest addition to its efficient, modern fire-fighting equipment arrived late Friday evening. It was christened Saturday afternoon with a bottle of champagne by Quinton Jones, chairman of borough council’s fire committee.
The American LaFrance truck was purchased by council at a price of approximately $25,000 and will be used by Engine Company No. 2. It will be housed in the company’s headquarters, which have been renovated by company members and council.
The truck is equipped with a 500-gallon water tank and 1,500 feet of two-inch hose. It is capable of pumping 1,000 gallons of water a minute.
