Olympics in view of Eiffel Tower

Editor’s note: Anna Laible of Lehighton is covering the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, with a team of fellow journalists from the University of North Carolina. She is reporting regularly on her experience there for the Times News.

Day 5

The last day of July brought lots of adventures.

I was finally able to sleep in, since we got back to the hotel at 1 a.m. from swimming, and it was fun to be able to hang out with my roommate, Kyla, a little bit. After getting Uber Eats delivered, I headed to the city where I made a quick stop at beach volleyball (the heat was tough, but well worth it because I wanted to make sure I experienced the venue at least once).

Then Steven, one of the other students from UNC, and I started our adventure to Lille, France, where USA men’s basketball was taking on South Sudan.

The trek was anything but easy and relaxing but after many different train stops and transfers, we made it to the stadium with 30 minutes to spare.

From the moment that I walked in the stadium, the atmosphere was absolutely electric!

Fans were on their feet before the game even began and that made it all that more enjoyable to watch. Team USA dominated from the jump and cruised to a victory but my favorite part from my time at Pierre Mauroy Stadium was getting the chance to interview Steph Curry. I also was able to talk with Anthony Davis and Nuni Omot from South Sudan (I definitely looked like a midget ha-ha).

I just finished up my story that I sent over to my editor, and Steven and I are getting ready to find an Uber to journey back for the next 2½ hours so we will get back by 3 a.m. (late night for sure) but well worth the experience and an adventure of a day that I will never forget.
